Kaanapali – Maui’s Quaint Golf Course
When your golfing buddy suddenly sprints on the green, you don’t have to worry because he is not running away from you because you reek or you smell. Nor is he running because there is a mad dog after him. In Kaanapali Kai golf course, he is in a hurry because he wants to take a souvenir shot of the passing train. This is one of the quaint attractions of this golf course… the Sugar Cane tour train with its authentic steam engine. While all other golf courses in Maui boast of panoramic view of the ocean this is the only golf course with a tour train.
Kaanapali Kai is just a stone’s throw away from the resort. A tourist staying at the Kaanapali’s resort can enjoy the night or laze on the beach longer and still have a game of golf later. An passionate golfer will be able to start a game very early in the morning with the grass still wet from the dew as he only have to step out of his room to the golf course.
The setting in this golf course is a little muddled as golfers need to cross a highway from number 1 to number 2 but the view more than makes up for this obstacle. While putting, you can look at the verdant green of the mountain on one side and the ocean outlook on the other side. Although Kaanapali Kai is not one of the best golf courses in Maui it is frequented by most tourists and ardent golfers because the Sugar Cane Train and humpbacked whales proved to be legendary added attractions.
There are two golf courses in Kaanapali Golf resort. The Royal Kaanapali North course with its Championship Tees Course rating of 18 holes and par 71 was designed by Robert Trent Jones, Sr. this world renowned architect created a golf course that is both appealing and demanding by taking advantage of the natural contours of the land and the scenic beauty of the surrounding area. This golf course has one of the best finishing holes in all the golf courses in Maui.
Kaanapali Royal North course which was opened in 1962 was the first resort golf course in Maui. This golf course hosted the World Cup in 1964 and was the venue of the Senior PGA event for 10 years. This golf venue has one of the best finishing holes in all the golf course in Maui. Golf fanatics are challenged with the many water obstacles to navigate.
